PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA

Pediatric Clinical Masterclass (PCM)

Programme Description

From Rapid Recognition to Safe Pediatric Decision-Making

The Professional Diploma in Pediatric Clinical Masterclass (PCM) is a four-month, practice-oriented programme for healthcare professionals who care for infants and children. It is designed to strengthen rapid assessment, emergency recognition, clinical reasoning, safe initial management, monitoring, referral and caregiver communication.

The programme integrates Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT), Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), common pediatric emergencies, neonatal care, infectious diseases, respiratory and neurologic illness, fluids and electrolytes, medication safety, procedures and structured case-based learning.

Rather than relying on lectures alone, PCM uses interactive clinical scenarios, algorithms, calculations, demonstrations, quizzes and integrated case workshops. Participants repeatedly apply the same structured approach to increasingly complex cases so that knowledge is translated into safer clinical decisions.

The diploma is delivered online over 16 weeks, with two live evening sessions each week. Successful participants who meet the course and assessment requirements will receive the Professional Diploma in Pediatric Clinical Masterclass awarded by DARA Institute.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the diploma, participants will be able to:

  • Use a structured pediatric assessment and triage approach and identify emergency and priority signs
  • Apply ETAT principles to airway and breathing problems, impaired circulation, severe dehydration, seizures, coma and hypoglycaemia
  • Assess and initiate management for common respiratory, infectious, neurologic, gastrointestinal and hematologic presentations
  • Calculate and prescribe common pediatric fluids and weight-based medicines using safety checks
  • Recognize sepsis and other time-critical illness and initiate stabilization, monitoring and referral
  • Assess nutritional status, classify acute malnutrition and apply IMAM principles for inpatient and outpatient pathways
  • Recognize and initially manage important neonatal and young-infant problems
  • Describe essential pediatric procedures and monitoring with attention to safety and infection prevention
  • Communicate clearly with caregivers and use structured clinical handover and discharge counselling

PCM is an educational programme. Teaching should be aligned with current national and institutional protocols. Drug doses, fluid regimens, antimicrobial choices, therapeutic feeds, referral pathways and emergency algorithms must be checked against the most current approved guidance for the learner's setting. Faculty should clearly identify where local protocols differ from international guidance.
